The legendary West Indies player said that India’s talented batsman Shubman Gill can score more than 400 runs in a Test innings. Lara became the first and so far the only cricketer to score 400 runs in a Test match against England in 2004.

He also holds the record for the highest individual score in first-class cricket. The left-handed batsman scored an unbeaten 501 in a County Championship match for Warwickshire against Durham in 1994.

Lara said that Gill could break both his big records. While talking to Anandabazar Patrika, Lara said ‘Shubman Gill can break both my records.’

The former West Indies captain described Gill as the most talented batsman of the current era. He said, ‘Gill is the most talented batsman in this new generation. He will rule cricket in the years to come. I believe he will break many big records.’

Gill, the youngest Indian to score a century in all formats of the game and the youngest Indian to score a double century in ODIs, has not had a good start to his Test career. He has 966 runs in 18 matches at an average of 32 and only one century to his name, but he is still 24 years old and will have plenty of opportunities.

Shubman Gill Start ODI Career

Gill has made a great start to his ODI career. He is the fastest player to score 2000 runs in just 38 innings in 50-over cricket. The right-handed batsman has already scored six centuries and averages 61.37 in the format.

But he could not make a splash in the recently concluded ODI World Cup. But Lara believes that Gill will win many ICC tournaments for India in the coming years.

He said, ‘If Gill plays county cricket, he can break my record of 501* runs. He can cross 400 in Test cricket. Cricket has changed a lot, especially with batting.’

Apart from this, he also said that ‘batsmen play T20 leagues all over the world. IPL has changed everything. The scoring rate has gone up. So you will keep seeing big scores. Lara said, ‘Shubman will score big, mark my words.’
